One of my favourite past times is to go to the websites of car makers from other countries and see what sort of interesting vehicles they sell. I love seeing what old models they continue to sell new in other places. Personally seeing every single new model they sell compiled into one list is quite satisfying. I figured Ford would be a good choice to start with, considering their lineup is going to be much smaller very soon, although Ford has little surprises when you look at their global lineup compared to most global companies, thanks to the One Ford policy.

Currently the smallest car Ford offers, the Ka and the Figo were two completely different superminis for different markets, which converged into a global car, with different names depending on the market. Naturally there’s an “Active” variant, which is called the Ford Freestyle in India for whatever reason. What’s wrong with the Figo Active? And why does the Active have the Ford oval in the middle of the grille, unlike the other versions?

I can’t walk down the road without seeing 5, so I find it kinda funny there’s a place where they couldn’t justify selling it. I’m super glad they’ve kept the 3 door version, they’re a dying breed. Of course Ford probably sells more 3 door Fiesta’s than the entirety of MG or Suzuki. Also the ST is funky as ever. No saloon version it seems this time. There’s one more variant well get to.

The new one must be a bit too premium for some markets, so they still sell the old one. Some places get a new front bumper, and to some wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference with this and the new one.
However in places where they the 5 door gets a new facelift, the saloon is unchanged for some reason, even though it too was recently updated for 2019. Also the Fiesta approaches it’s death bed, it understandably doesn’t get a facelift for America.

The Focus too has got a new version, but y’all Americ-ok, I think it doesn’t need explaining again. If you put Genesis badges on this, I would be utterly fooled, the grilles are so similar. The new model is available in an abundance of bodystyles, but interestingly enough the “Active” is not available as an estate. Seems like a missed opportunity.

But China will continue to sell the old model. Chinese companies do this stuff all the time, apparently the Chinese have an assumption older is better. They also did this to the Mk2 when the Mk3 came out.

The Escort lives in China! I love it when manufactures revive nameplates for regular cars no one cared that much about. It’s now a Focus-based saloon. And China also sells the Focus saloon. So why does this exist? I know China loves their backseats but...

Once again the outcome of One Ford , the Fusion and the Mondeo were two separate cars converged into one. There’s actually some differences other than name, with the exception of the Hybrid, the Mondeo is a hatchback while the Fusion has just a standard trunk. Also the Mondeo hasn’t got the facelift yet. And the Global tastes, Diesels, manuals, V6s, estate version blah blah.

The Taurus is now a Chinese exclusive. Looks massive doesn’t it? Based on the Mondeo platform, but it just looks like a Mondeo XL.

The first of Ford’s surprisingly large MPV lineup. I loved the B-Maxs sliding door + no B-pillar combo, but unfortunately the public didn’t. So now the C-Max is their smallest MPV. Get the Grand C-Max and you get 7 seats and and sliding doors. Apparently Americans get a hybrid version, shame we never got that.

This is basically the sporty alternative to the Ford Galaxy. Makes sense with the old one, but with the new one you can barely tell the difference! And of course crossovers are the new cool family mobile. (Hilariously Ford of Europe currently sells 5 vehicles with third rows and not one of them an SUV.) Apparently still one of the best handling MPVs, although Ford’s really good at making all their vehicles fun to drive, sooo...

OK there’s the B-Max (dead), C-Max, I-Max (dead), S-Max. So naturally the next one is named after a classic Ford sold in the 60s, with a slight spelling change. Perfect! Why does Ford always have outliers in their naming schemes they’ve created?

The smallest of Ford’s Tourneo lineup (which is Ford for Transit passenger). A tiny little cute van with seats.

The medium of their Tourneos. The famous chicken tax van, only with the seats still in! (Yeah I know they don’t do that anymore.) Like the C-Max, comes in 5 seater and the Grand 7 seater. Americans just call it Transit instead of Tourneo for whatever reason.

Taking the title for worst name for a car, the Ford EcoSport! I love chunky small looks of these things, and the spare tire on the back looks cool. I don’t like anything else though, other than owners faces of regret as they struggle to find the (cool hidden) boot handle, and struggle as it opens onto the pavement.

I genuinely love the sporty soft looks of the Edge, but the facelift has turned it into an awkward looking thing. This picture might be a worse case scenario, but there’s this uncanny feeling about the facelift. Head to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and it’s only available as a 7 Seater variant. The larger rear kinda looks out of place.

The last gen Transit gen is still sold in China with a facelift! I like how that, whether you nickname it the Transit China or the Transit Classic, it still (unintentionally) conforms to the naming scheme of Transit word beginning with C. Hey it even accidentally works with with Transit Cutaway, or Transit Cab Chassis!

Super duty numbers indicate the axle rating. An F-150 is a half-ton, F-250 is a 3/4 ton, F-350 is a 1-ton, and so-on.
I like the front of the Edge you showed, but I didn’t realize they were finally doing a major facelift. The one they currently sell in the US is legitimately archaic like some of their commercial offerings, with little more than cosmetic updates in years. Among their SUV offerings, it’s more neglected than even the Expedition was for a while there.
The Ford Flex is one of the oldest car designs they sell new in the US. I saw a huge number of them out on the highway yesterday, so apparently they appeal to a certain demographic (Families that camp?) in some parts of the US. I always heard that they only still made them because a single state buys a disproportionate number of them and has since their debut: California.

I’ve seen those 3rd-gen, redesigned Transits everywhere during my trip in Vietnam, just as popular as Merc Sprinters (which are also based on an older generation) !

The Mondeo is available in saloon, five door li ftback and estate.
What I like about the U.K. is that although we get a lot of these cars, we can legally import any of the ones that aren’t for sale at the main dealers.

the “ton” moniker is decades out of date. Now, they pretty much align with FHWA Truck Classification except for class 1. the old “half ton” class has grown such that class 2 includes both 150/1500 and 250/2500. Above that they align (Class 3 = F-350 and so on.)
oh, and the Flex is a real odd one. It never made its original sales goals, but the damn thing is a consistent 1,500-2,000 unit a month seller.

the Escort is meant to be a less expensive alternative to the Focus (C segment “value” car.) It is to the Focus what the Ka/Figo is to the Fiesta.

The Edge came out in 2016 here in Europe, so it still seems fresh and new to me . The Flex is apparently dying in 2020? It seems like the Flex has alot of fans, and I’m happy for them that it’s still here . Seems like the type of car you don’t really want to mess with the formula.

I’m not keen on the Edge.
But Ford do an Edge ST (not available in the U.K. but we can grey import one legally), which to me tarnishes the ST badge.
A 335bhp, 2.7 V6.
We do get an ST-Line in the U.K. though, regular engines but with ST styling.
177bhp manual , 2.0TDCi and 207bhp auto , 2.0TDCi

Except the Ka+ is a different size to the Fiesta. The Escort is the same size as the Chinese Focuses. From highest to lowest price, d oes it go from Focus, Escort, old Focus?

Where I’m from those wagons tend to outsell their sibling hatchbacks. (Compact) Sedans are usually not even available; The VW Golf is the best selling vehicle in the entire market and the VW Jetta has been discontinued years ago.

no it isn’t, both Ka and Fiesta are B-segment. classification is based on interior volume. Ka is about 100mm shorter due to its stubbier nose, which helps it in countries where vehicle exterior size is factored in to road tax.

But everyone uses it when describing trucks, so I stick with it. I didn’t know how they actually classify them because I mostly ignore trucks except when I need one to move something.
And almost all of those are in CA, but as I said, I have seen a lot of them out there on my current trip. Seeing more parked around here, UT also likes them a lot.
